Module: Phonics
Phonics is a method of teaching English that focuses on the sounds (phonemes) and their written symbols (graphemes). Understanding phonics is one of the fundamentals of the language, and it is essential for fluent reading, speaking and comprehension. It helps learners decode (read) and encode (spell) words by sounding them out. Students learn how to associate letters of the alphabet with how they are arranged and what the sound like. Phonics are important because they build “decoding” skills (students can learn new words more eaily), and they improve spelling by providing a franmework for sound-letter combinations.
